Way to go, L.L. Bean!

Founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean, the company grew from a one-man operation to a global organization with annual sales of $1.5 billion. The company headquarters are in Freeport, Maine, just down the road from the original store. I am from NH, but Maine is close enough to make me proud. We are all yankees after all. What started as a modest company making a few excellent items for outdoorsmen, has grown to provide many good jobs for folks in Maine and throughout New England.

Their customer service remains–second to none.

Multichannel Merchant Names L.L.Bean Cross Channel Merchant of the Year

May 26, 2010, Freeport, ME – L.L.Bean was named Catalog of the Year at the 25th annual Multichannel Merchant Awards on May 25, 2010. The company received the highest overall score for its Fall 2009 catalog, winning a Gold award. In addition, L.L.Bean was honored as the Cross Channel Merchant of the Year.

L.L.Bean has been a frequent recipient of awards from Multichannel Merchant magazine, which recognizes marketers for superior catalogs and Web sites. This year, to give more businesses an opportunity to receive awards, Multichannel Merchant limited the number of submissions to no more than four catalogs and one Web site per company.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with our success this year,” says Don Oakes, Senior Vice President of Creative. “Winning seven awards with only five entries is quite an honor. To receive such recognition from our industry peers shows that we continue to lead the industry in the excellence of our catalogs and Web site. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who made these awards possible.”

  1. Where can I catch big fish in NH? I need to know the exact location, GPS coords please 😉

  2. Relheok–what does that mean, anyway?

There are two spots in NH where you can catch big fish other than the hatcheries of course. I can’t say though, as I have been sworn to secrecy and my password would be revoked if I gave up coordinates.
I could take you blind folded, but you’d have to submit to some rather in depth questioning first.

  3. I think it’s really exciting to hear of a business (especially an OUTDOOR related business) that is still doing well. I’ve found that people area heading back to the great outdoors since hotels and other “vacations” are too expensive.

  4. That is an interesting observation. I’ve seen where quite a lot of people have been trying to ‘simplify’ their lives and get back to basic things. Your observation makes a lot of sense in that context.
