Birds for a New Setter

A fresh new puppy inevitably gets one to thinking about the need for exposure and birds for introduction and ongoing training. I hope to soon locate a source for to purchase a handful of birds, but there is time yet. Max will be 6 months old by mid-season here in Oklahoma, so I do anticipate hunting him some this year, but before then some time getting excited about birds would be nice for both of us.

Googling around a bit shows several preserve/club type establishments in Oklahoma, but this one is just 20 minutes up the road. Tucker and I drove over to meet the folks and check it out. The fella running the place is of some re-known and talked a real good game–boasting an unparalleled number of birds on the property. Its expensive, but perhaps for a once a year treat, pennies could be saved. I need to research the adjoining properties to see if an arrangement can be made with owners for permission to chase refugee birds—of which there must be many. There is a huge tract across the way. I have much to learn about our new environs. Much to learn.
